On May 7, 2025, AI coding tool Cursor announced that students can now get a free one-year Pro subscription, which includes access to premium models, faster request limits, and unlimited slow requests.
How to Access Free 1-Year Pro for Students?
To claim the free subscription, students need to visit Cursor’s official website and verify their student status by either using a student email address, with a matching “.edu” email, or submitting proof of enrollment through the student page.
After verification, users will be prompted to enter payment details to activate the Pro plan, which will be free for the first 12 months.
Meanwhile, existing Pro users will receive a refund for unused time, while new users must subscribe through their account settings after verification.
The subscription will automatically renew at the standard rate after 12 months, unless it is cancelled beforehand.
What are the Features of Cursor Pro?
The Cursor Pro subscription includes 500 fast premium requests per month, unlimited slow premium requests and completions, and access to 10 o1-mini model uses per day. Once a pro user exhausts their fast requests, it automatically shifts to the slower pool with variable wait times based on usage.
For teams, “500 premium requests” means that each individual user receives their own monthly quota of 500 fast requests for premium models. These are not shared or pooled; each team member has a separate allowance that resets monthly.
